Minutes

1. Islandora 8 Release Date Announced: May 31st

  • hooray! (:birthday: :beers: :dart: :surfing_man:  :tada: :shipit:)
  • successful sprints
  • no major "release blocking" issues
  • all the major issues should be manageable by release time
  • final reading from the community will help with escalating issues
  • full-blown Drupal project on Drupal.org
  • many thankyous to the dedicated folks involved

2. Would be nice to get these in:

  • Installs PHP 7.2
  • need to merge the PR
  • let's forget 7.1 and below after this
  • at some point, we'll have to shuffle all the microservices forward
  • Symphony 4 has new ways of packaging code, we should look at this
  • We need to plan for 7.3 testing soon

  • Add some unit testing

  • making taxonomy term fields translatable in the default configuration

  • bump geolocation version

  • Replace field_geo_broader with taxonomy-provided parent field
  • It's not clear we should even pull this is at all
  • Geographical location can have multiple parents
  • Drupal's built-in taxonomies are kinda strict
  • PR will be closed (by Seth)

3. Other recent issues:

    • Drupal makes its own thumbnails, and it's confusing
    • We need to figure out how to better use what Drupal is doing
    • image styles are getting cached in Fedora
    • shoving it all into Drupal public file system is an appropriate solution
  • Sidenote: last call to submit new (manageable) issues!

    • Islandora has too many Type vocabularies
    • There is some overlap (e.g. Image in Resource Type and Model, same external URI)
    • Maybe try to ease the UI after the 1.0 release?
    • We're headed to Webform territory here, not nec. a bad thing, but complicated
    • Related to islandora_demo, we should change the name to islandora_defaults (happening!)
    • Danny will update the issue
    • You can base derivatives off of anything

4. Remove "Require branches to be up to date before merging" requirement.

  • This ensures pull requests targeting a matching branch have been tested with the latest code. This setting will not take effect unless at least one status check is enabled
  • It's kinda defeating the purpose of git in some ways
  • Let's just get rid of it, we'll put it back if we need to, ok? ok!

5. Islandora 8 Release Milestone: https://github.com/Islandora-CLAW/CLAW/milestone/17

  • didn't get to this during this meeting
  • please review everyone
