IEEE Structure

This page documents information for the structure and operation of IEEE. ROV is one of the technical committees under IEEE.

Beyond Purdue

IEEE stands for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, but is actually far more encompassing than just that.

The Purdue IEEE student branch is run by the executive committee. The executive committee encompasses the President, Vice President of Technical Committees, Vice President of Cornerstones, the Treasurer, the Secretary, the Cornerstone heads (Learning, Growth and Engagement, Social, and Industrial Relations), and one representative from each technical or event committee. In 2021, the current technical committees are ROV, Aerial, EMBS, C-Society, MTT-S, and Racing. Software Saturdays is the sole event committee. Its special classification is due to how it was founded in a partnership with the College of Engineering. The cornerstones are very valuable to IEEE and allow for student to work on a specific soft skill and for all committees to share resources and get to know each other.
The cornerstones are:

  • Learning - Learnning runs workshops to teach skills like CAD (both electrical and mechanical), git, and more.
  • Social - Social runs lots of events for members of committees and IEEE to get to know each other and have fun.
  • Growth and Engagement - Growth and Engagement coordinates events to grow IEEE like the callout and recruiting and events to involve ourselves in the community like volunteering.
  • Industrial Relation - Industrial Relation works with companies for things like job recruiting, resumes books, and sponsorship.

Office

The IEEE Office is located in EE 014 and is open to any dues paying IEEE member to use. Stop in between classes to say hi or do work. Contact the current president or ROV Captain for access.
