X12/13: ROV Triton

2019-2021, Captain Grant Geyer Tech Report | Poster Spec Sheet | Qualifying Video | Season Pictures
With nearly two years of development due to the coronavirus pandemic, ROV X12/13 Triton became one of the most competent ROVs in recent team history. In a limited field of competitors at the World Championship, it achieved 4th place. Over the two year design cycle, experienced members on the team introduced many new innovations including: integrated thrusters ducts, nacelles, and shrouds; modular foam and ballast; quick sealing logic tube (actually); resin printed solenoid manifold; a single box for nearly all electronics (and showing that just a box can be used) providing ultimate accessibility, sealing, thermal properties; hot swappable ESCs and their controllers; ESC and power brick data (well nearly); higher current output; 6 revolutionary low latency camera streams; a more robust ROS network; and a modular front end that exercised excellent control over the vehicle. It placed 4th at competition with a limited number of competitors in the in-person field.

X11: ROV Remora

2018-2019, Captain Alex Ruffino Tech Report | Poster | Spec Sheet | Qualifying Video | Season Pictures

ROV Remora was a vehicle stiffled by ambition. Simultaneous changes to CAN, ROS, and pneumatics resulted in a plethora of integration issues that reduced available testing time. The ambitious Delta Power Tube was overly complex and demanded onerously tight electrical-mechanical integration for little benefit. Ultimately, X11 was operable for about 30 seconds during competition due to electrical issues and flooding of the Logic Tube.
