UNIX Structure

An operating system is, at its core, a set of computer programs that run other computer programs. The operating system manages access to memory, CPU, IO, and various methods of external communication offered by the machine.

Unix is just one type of operating system, but it is the second-most-popular system, behind only Windows. It has a unique methodology and structure that is relatively clean and intuitive to understand. The pages in this section try to explain some of this methodology, structure, and management.
