   borg also supports compression.
   I also added Back In Time: although its core part is a sort of "wrapper" around rsync, it indeed offers many features to provide a full backup solution: permission handling, retention policies, various type of scheduling and/or backup trigger events, support for remote backups using SSH, etc.. It also provides a GUI to easy browsing and restoring of files from a snapshot and a comprehensive command-line interface to automate backup, restore and retention activities. Unfortunately, it looks like unmaintained in the last 1,5 years, but I think it's still a valid solution and worth mentioning here.
