Collaborating with OBS

Ivy Feraco edited this page Apr 5, 2020 · 3 revisions

We want to make content that is collaborative. Using OBS you can use more than one computer and more than one location.

We still need to test what is the best and fastest configuration, but we did a trial...

Stream setup with remote collaborators

Using OBS we were able to have someone doing visuals and another doing audio in different places.

Start two instances of the server, one for the initial music/video stream and the other to receive the stream with everything put together. Lets call them Stream-Collab and Stream-Public.

  1. First contributor streams to Stream-Collab with OBS
  2. Second contributor receives Stream-Collab, maybe with VLC, to use as a source
  3. Second contributor uses the stream's audio and/or video input in OBS and uses their visuals as video input
  4. Second contributor streams this to Stream-Public

Note: audio quality and monitoring setup TBD

Visual setup with Resolume and OBS

Use the NDI output of resolume under Output > Network Streaming (NDI)
Download and install the OBS NDI plugin https://github.com/Palakis/obs-ndi/releases/tag/4.1.3
Under Sources, you should now see the NDI as an option, choose that and then select your NDI source.

For using two computers in the same space, with VJ software on one and OBS on another, it should be possible to wire computers with an ethernet cable to share the screen inputs using NDI Scan Converter (need to try this like when we did visuals for the event).
Download the NDI tools https://ndi.tv/tools/ Scan Converter.
