Microsoft PowerToys version

0.84.1

Installation method

PowerToys auto-update, Microsoft Store

Running as admin

Yes

Area(s) with issue?

Awake

Steps to reproduce

I do not have steps to reproduce.

✔️ Expected Behavior

Tray icon to appear normally as Windows start-up, and not suddenly gone missing. The right or left-clicking on the icon to pop up balloon to change the mode settings without having to go through inside the PowerToys window app to manually change within the module section.

❌ Actual Behavior

One day, suddenly Awake module is not working properly. Sometimes, the tray icon went missing, after restarting laptop or PowerToys, both as normal user and administrator, the Awake module pops up at the tray icon but right or left-clicking on it still does not work. I have to manually go to the module within the program itself to change mode settings.

Other Software

None.

Yes the only way to fix the tray icon I found is to do a clean reinstall while also deleting the appdata folders with settings that the uninstaller does not remove. After that the icon works again but breaks after each update past 0.84.0 so I am just going to not update my powertoys anymore since I also use fancyzones and redoing all my settings after each update is not feasible. I will wait for the next major version to see if this is fixed. It might be possible to make it work by just stopping powertoys, and deleting just the settings.json from the awake appdata folder, but I didn't check.

I had this same issue after the last update, v0.84.1

I had to exit PowerToys and restart it for the Awake icon to work properly again.

PowerToys is set to run as administrator.

I tried uninstalling powertoys and removing any folders within appdata or common folders and reinstall it via GitHub files. Still problem. But I am on 0.84.1 version though. Not sure but I think the issue started to occur on the 0.84.0 update itself. The previous version was working alright. Even after restarting the app and restart the PC, still occurs.

I'm also facing the same problem. Either PowerToys v0.84.1 or Windows Update (KB5043076) broke it. This problem wasn't in v0.84.0. I updated to v0.84.1 yesterday and installed windows update (KB5043076) today.

version 0.83.0 works fine so I reverted to that.

I'm testing awake in two machines, one is a Windows 10 laptop running version 0.84.1 and in there the menu for the tray icon of Awake works perfectly.

However in my main machine running Windows 11 is where it has failed and it's where it doesn't work at all

I uninstalled version 0.84.1 and 0.84.0. Delete all folders related to PowerToys in Program Files, User AppData and ProgramData (if any). Downloaded from GitHub the previous release, namely the 0.83.0, installed it and voila. It works normally as it should. I think it has something to do with the changes in 0.84.0 and above. Not sure if I should close this thread as it is a workaround, not a fix.

I wouldn't close this bug/thread as there's a workaround (unless that there's another tracker where a fix is being worked on, if so please correct me) because it's not reflecting the expected behavior of the program.

facing the same, after a restart of computer or coming back from sleep, the icon is gone. closing powertoys, and opening it up again brings up the icon, and therefore, i assume, the functionality associated!

@mikibakaiki, this method works. But you've to restart PowerToys every time after restarting your pc to make it work.

My Awake icon also disappears, but it is also not keeping my system awake. Are others having their system stay awake even with no icon?

Same issue here. Awake tray icon disappears on reboot. Restarting Powertoys or toggling Awake off and then back on gets the icon back.

Windows 11, 23H2
