Licensing isn't the simplest topic. Hoewer, i would like to simplify our attribution text.

Currently we list four Repository alongside with the Name of the "Owner".
Hoewer, the Repo Owner isn't always the Creator of those pictures.

Judging by the Contributors to those Repos at least 8 people (@Moorviper, @DeusFigendi @belzebub40k, @AiyionPrime, @nalxnet, @herbetom, @dunjii, @maurerle (i really hope i didn't overlook someone 🙈)) contributed pictures so far.

@maurerle started a Repo in the @freifunk Org to collect all those picutres in a common place:
https://github.com/freifunk/device-pictures

In the README of that Repo are all used Repos listed.

My proposal would be to just link that Repo going forward.

I would like to hear if there are any thoughts on this (in agreement or disagreement) and what alternative approaches could be.

My proposal would be to just link that Repo going forward.

I'm fine with this. I would appreciate to be mentioned in the README.md but if you (or @maurerle ) thinks that's not feasible I'd be okay without.

Anyways it's hard for others to find the origin of those images if they'd like to reuse and proper attribute those works.
Usually I put a copyright notice inside my work examples:

https://pod.geraspora.de/uploads/images/scaled_full_274ced637c3c12a6d38b.jpeg
https://pod.geraspora.de/uploads/images/6360fe27262bd83d5da6.JPG

This way people automaticly fullfill the attribution if they use/share images. In this case I didn't because I didn't want to hurt the good practice.

But as I said: if the repo is linked in the readme and the readme is linked as attribution it's fine for me.

Linking just that repo is fine by me, as I'm following @belzebub40k in his decision archiving this former work.

That being said;
Creating those pictures is a tedious process. And I do not really mind, as I only contributed few; but I think it would be nice if the scraping of the old repos would take old committers into account.

This would have worked by using the Co-authored-by tag.

Now it looks like only three people contributed to device-pictures, which sucks ^^

Removing the link to my repo and just linking to the central image repo is totally fine for me. As I'm not actively working on it and have no plans to contribute new images in the near future, I've followed the process of other creators and archived my repo.

Yeah this is fine.

Also fine for me.

I agree with @AiyionPrime that attributing within the Commit/Commits and adding all the creators as Co-Authors would have been a good move.

I tried creating such a commit history: https://github.com/herbetom/device-pictures2

It probably isn't without some systemcatic flaw. Maybe someone could check before this is (force) pushed to the https://github.com/freifunk/device-pictures repo to replace the history there.
