Seems a bit garbled in the preview. This is Safari Version 16.5.1 (17615.2.9.11.7, 17615) on an M1 Mac (Monterey 12.6.5).

More often than not, npm is not typeface. Maybe this is intended, but it is definitely not an English word :-)

Thanks for pointing this out; it turns out that there was a rogue tab character after the star emoji.

More often than not, npm is not typeface

I had to manually re-insert all the links and formatting from the original Medium article, so there were a few missing backticks. However, npm has some extremely strong opinions on this topic in general. From one of their changelogs:

https://github.com/npm/npm/releases/tag/v5.0.0

  • npm will now scold you if you capitalize its name. seriously it will fight you.

Not only is npm strongly encouraged to be written as typeface, it's also supposed to be lower case at the beginning of a sentence. A widely adopted compromise seems to be using "npm" when referring to the package manager itself, npm for specific commands, and then avoiding usage at the beginning of a sentence at all costs. 😅
