This is the behavior of the official pdf.js. I guess that dates back to a time when Safari did not support CSS variables – I think we should open an issue for that in the pdf.js repository.

It seems there isn't anything specific mentioned about Safari, and something is still missing in Safari to pass the test.

Yes, but I suspect this is not because Safari isn’t capable of a resizable sidebar but rather because of the way the test is written. So just in case we need that functionality in Safari at some point, I suggest to try to fix it in the official pdf.js repo instead of patching it.
