Add basic unit test cases

There's been a number of report issues that we fixed, but there's no way to catch regressions with any degree of automation. Suggest that we add a unit tests to at least capture some of the expected behaviors and to hopefully trap and detect NPEs and other unexpected behaviors (such as no single point image being rendered when one was expected, no kml output, etc).
