Hi Lorena, I am interested in being part of this project so I can keep on top of recommendations and add to SO where necessary.

Nice @keilbeck, I think you are an owner of the miRTop organization, you can check if you have permissions to change files maybe trying to modify: https://github.com/miRTop/incubator/blob/master/isomir_naming.md

If not I will add you all again to all repositories :) Will contact all of you by github to start working here and get people involved! Thanks

Hi @farazfazli

Happy to hear you are interested! Can you tell us about you and what is your expertise? :) That way I can add you to the projects you can contribute.

thanks so much for your time!

Sure! I'm 19 and love coding. I have experience with Java, Go, and Devops. I make Android apps using Java and backend server-side apps with Go. In my free time, I organize the NYC Mobile App Dev Meetup.

Hi, sorry for the delay, i was in a conference. Ok, I think you can help in the development team. I will prepare some issues that help you to create some PR to the code. Downside we are using python :) Any special interest in this community? because we come from biology, don't know if you are interested on that somehow :)

@farazfazli

@lpantano That sounds great, would love to help. I have experience with Python, but haven't worked with it in a while. I am interested in this community because I always liked the concept of using coding to aid other fields such as biology.

I am not the strongest in the field of biology, but I have a passion for coding, so I hope that I am able to learn more as well as help further the vision of the project. :)

@farazfazli, that's cool!

We need help in the issues #3 and #4 here: https://github.com/miRTop/mirtop/issues

I think is a good way to start, just try to install it and run the example that is described in the README. The idea is to fix according because probably there are issues with requirements or wrong documentation.

I will try to add more info to the issues this week! welcome!

Hi!

I've created a tool called OrgManager that allows you to generate links to join a Github organization!
(You may want to get more info at the github repo or see it in action.)

Some organizations like Open Source Design are using it to make joining faster!

It even has an API, if you want to integrate it with your application!
(Api docs)

What do you think?

PD. If you think it could have other nice features, just open an issue on the repo!

cool, thanks for the suggestion. I will start using it.

Ciao Lorena,
this is Gianvito Urgese Postdoc from Politecnico di Torino.
I'm working in the design of tools for miRNA and isomiR detection in sRNA-Seq data (my tool is called isomiR-SEA).

Hi! This is a great project. I 'd be happy to contribute.
Milad Bastami, PhD of Medical Genetics. My interest is the application of bioinformatics in identification and prioritization of miRNA-related polymorphisms which contribute to human disease. Unfortunately, I don't have python experience yet. But I worked a little bit with linux, command line tools, galaxy and R bioconductor.

cool! thanks!. We are working currently in defining a specific format for small RNA analysis:

https://github.com/miRTop/incubator/blob/master/format/definition.md

The last issues are related to that:

https://github.com/miRTop/incubator/issues

Welcome!

Hello to all, I would like to contribute as well.

I have a PhD in Biotechnology and familiar with Python, R and Linux. I am interested in non coding RNAs.

And mine is;
Department of Research, Cancer Registry of Norway, Oslo, Norway.

BTW, I want to contribute especially for programming. Where should I start? Current issues perhaps ??

Thanks @sinanugur, we are working on the definition of the format. After that, we can implement this into the code. Right now, the old code is here:

https://github.com/miRTop/mirtop

You can run the examples to get use to it, and read the code to get an idea of the structure. The main goal in a couple of months will be to implement the GFF output discussed here:

https://github.com/miRTop/incubator/issues

and

https://github.com/miRTop/incubator/blob/master/format/definition.md

I'll ping you specifically when we start working on that! Thanks a bunch!

Hi @sbb25

happy you are on board! the best place to start is the issue list here:

https://github.com/miRTop/incubator/issues

The two last are the most active. As well, we'll need help with the development of the tool in a couple of month!

Do you want to appear with any particular affiliation?

cheers

Sounds good!
Please add 'Partners Personalized Medicine, Cambridge MA' to my affiliation.
Thank you.

Hi @lpantano
My name is Xavier. I'm a postdoc at NCI, working on a miRNA 5' miscleavage and 3' tailoring-and -trimming. Our work extensively experimental but we have some thoughts (and scripts) on their bioinformatic analysis. We are interested in contributing to this project by taking some of the ideas that are being discussed and our suggestions.
Thanks

@haebhardt , no worries, I'll remove you now. If you have any tips at some point about the definition we put together here: https://github.com/miRTop/incubator/blob/master/format/definition.md let me know. I am sure you'll have some great ideas.

Cheers
