Description of the problem

I have been receiving multiple errors when attempting to access eBay for the past year now. And recently I've figured out that HoverZoom+ is causing this issue. "I had this issue on my old desktop, my current laptop, but my new desktop has been fine for 6+ months- today I reinstalled the hoverzoom+ chrome extension and the issue immediately came back, after deleting it and restarting brave/chrome the error went away"

" Access Denied

You don't have permission to access "http://www.ebay/ .com/" on this server.

Reference #18.91fd717.1711376052.189ba84d"

This is the most common I see after browsing multiple pages on the site.

This ONLY occurs on my primary PC. My phone and other PCs in the house do not receive this error even on the same SSID.

Here are all of the steps I have completed, and I am desperate to confirm what the error is here.

Cleared browser history and cache (Opera GX)
Completely removed all %appdata% from browser (Opera GX)
Reinstalled browser (Opera GX)
Tested on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox
Flushed DNS
Tested with several new IPs via VPN
Tested with forced renewal of public IP from ISP Xfinity
Error even occurred after updating from W10 to W11 in that timeframe
Purchased an entirely new router/modem from a different brand than previous
Changed password for ebay account
Here's the kicker: the issue does NOT occur when I am not logged into my ebay account. I can search for hours without any issues, but 10 minutes into my account, boom, error occurs.

I am at a loss here. I have changed every. single. variable. I could on my end and this issue still persists. Any other forum post is a dead end or was resolved with a browser fix. This is not the case for me, and any insight will be appreciated.

Steps to reproduce the problem (include image url here)

  1. have hoverzoom+ installed and browse around for a few minutes
  2. Eventually you'll get that error

I've recently figured out that HoverZoom+ is the issue, please look into it.

I suspect that your activity triggers some anti-bot defense mechanism of ebay. Hoverzoom makes some API calls to ebay to get item details which contain large image versions, and maybe if there are too many of these calls then ebay thinks you are trying to scrape them or are a bot. I use ebay myself and I have never seen this issue, so maybe it's specific to you (or your location) somehow.

the reddit thread isn't mine, I just found the solution.

I suspect that your activity triggers some anti-bot defense mechanism of ebay.

This is what I figured...

I've experienced this issue in Northern California, Southern California, and Nevada!

I'll see if disabling HoverZoom on eBay works, I've only attempted uninstalling so far.

My firm also experienced this issue. Users who work from home do not experience this. Users in office with maybe 2-10 other people accessing eBay begin getting this CDN error from eBay intermittently throughout the day, as if it is some sort of crude rate limiting implementation.

We are in Ohio.
