What is ckanext-requestdata?

The requestdata extension allows data maintainers to publish a metadata only dataset, making users aware of a datasets existence without the need to upload the file(s).

An interested user can indicate their interest in accessing full dataset(s) to a dataset maintainer by choosing “Request Data” on the dataset page.

Requests are managed by dataset maintainers through new dashboards (separate dashboards for users, organizations and system adminis). Requests are grouped into "new requests", "open requests" and "archived requests".

Why use ckanext-requestdata?

• Make others aware that your data is available
• Publish dataset metadata without uploading a file(s)
• Once a user requests access, you can decide exactly what to share
• Data may contain personal identifiable information
• You may need to restrict access to sensitive data

How users request resources from a metadata only dataset

For a metadata-only dataset, instead of resources being made immediately available, users can indicate their interest to the dataset maintainer by selecting “Request Data”.

Dataset maintainers receive a request notification once an interested user enters their contact details and reasons why they would like to access the data.

Maintainers are notified by email, and an alert through the UI.

Where can maintainers manage metadata only dataset requests?

There are seperate user, organization and admin dashboards from where maintainers can accept or decline requests.
