https://www.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/wxi78n/heroku_free_plans_will_be_removed/
On the 28h of november Heroku deleted the free plan from its platform, so that may be the reason why the website doesn't work anymore.

you guys could try the wayback machine

it kinda works, but the sidebar (inside of a lesson) links to the linuxjourney.com (which is down) for some reason. what's even more weird is that when hovering cursor on these it says that they are indeed archived, but after clicking you're on linuxjourney.com again.
this repo is useless as well because it contains only the lessons, not even the site (so you could build it locally or run a mirror for everyone to use), and these aren't even properly ordered anyhow!
but that's all we left with.

I'll try to reorder these and combine them into some Jekyll thingie powered by Github Pages. shouldn't be that hard considering that it's all markdown and the order can be looked up on Wayback Machine. stay tuned

I can't, it's currently still in WIP. Should be done in a few weeks or so though

Please do.
It's precious piece of knowledge which should not be lost.

Do you need some help with the task?

Hey! I have a WebHTTrack project. I cloned this last year. But it has some language issues.

Okay, so I can't recreate linuxjourney properly. My skills aren't enough for that. Sad but true. In the last few days I was busy doing other stuff and now I don't want to return to it. If there's someone who would like to continue that - ping me, I'll deploy everything left and send to you as a .tar.gz, the only rule you'll need to follow is to not publish until sure that everything is done.

Now about my experience.
There was one big issue: quizzes. Yes, these things you can play after reading a lesson and (ideally) working everything out in your Linux terminal like bash. The thing is that I don't know how to make these properly considering that the markdowns included in cindyq/linuxjourney contain only the answers to these quizzes, not questions or anything. As a new maintainer you'll need to deal with that somehow and implement quizzes.

I'm sorry and I hope this project will be done despite any issues.

@plr7edu Thank you so much, you're a lifesaver, I just manually modified the language of the HTML code with a translator so it's not a problem.

Last year, I went through and took down the order of all of the lesson content: https://gist.github.com/LunaGNUisance/a14f7dbe8afb948b4ac8e28e1b832ad7

I also renamed/re-ordered all the files for the English version in my own fork of this repository: https://github.com/LunaGNUisance/linuxjourney

If you just want to read it offline, you can clone this repository. You'll want a markdown reader like Marker, or if you prefer viewing things in a terminal, I like mdcat.

This repo has not been active in a long time.

I think at this point, the best case scenario would be for someone with the necessary time and knowledge to fork and re-host it. The community could then stand behind it and Pull Requests and Issues could resume as normal.

Hi all,
thanks to this thread and @LunaGNUisance fork, I created a fork that serve the site like it use to be (kind of).

  • You can serve it yourself locally.
  • I did it quick and dirty, so it might have some bugs.

Enjoy https://github.com/itamarg365/linuxjourney !

Hi all,

The revived site (exact replica as static site) is available at - https://linuxvoyage.github.io/
Note: linuxjourney.github.io wasn't available such username/org name already exists.

Any maintenance PRs are welcome at https://github.com/linuxvoyage/linuxvoyage.github.io

Thanks to this thread and Extra special thanks to 👍 these people below:

@Pavan-Nambi - Great Job with your own theming and rust type books and especially dark theming.

@itamarg365 - Your quick and dirty work proved to be more than good enough to revive the site to be hosted on github pages using the same text-fu skills I learnt as part of the linux journey lessons.

@LunaGNUisance : Well, thanks for being the pioneer in making the lessons list and your GNU-sense proved to be worthy for the site revival.

Good day you all,
Have a great journey! 😁

@itamarg365 : Hey, thanks for your self-hosting code. I noticed, Your python code is not licensed. Can you please add a license or would you like me to license it to one which Open Source Community prefers like MIT or GNU GPL V3+ ?
