When using the gyroscope on android device for flying the drone there doesn't seem to be a way to calibrate the gyroscope so that you don't have to hold the device flat.

Hi! Sorry for the extremely late reply, and yes that sound like a feature that would be better in the android client. I'll keep this issue still open so that others can see this feature request and perhaps contribute in the future.
