camify

Camify is a CNC machine simulation which can be used for 3 axis milling machines. It is developed in C# and uses OpenGL for graphics rendering.

Features

  • Loading of NC program files
  • Loading of tools/roughparts
  • Preprocessing of the simulation
  • 100% correct boolean subtraction performed on triangle meshes
  • Calculation of swept volumes generated by tool motion.
  • Visual presented machine simulation
  • Free rotation of 3D scene

Boolean operations

If you don't need a CNC simulation but only boolean subtraction on polyhedral meshes then you just need the GeometryCalculation project and the Shared project. The booolean subtractor is 100% robust which means that no floating point bugs can occur. The trick is that an arbitrary precision rational datatype is used internally. Have a look at the TestProject in order to find examples on how the boolean subtractor works. Basically, you only need to create two DeformableObjects and initialize them with instances of the Mesh class.

So for example:

Vector3d[] verts1 =
            {
                new Vector3d(-1, 1, -0.5f),
                new Vector3d(-1, 1, 0),
                new Vector3d(1, 1, -0.5f),
                new Vector3d(1, 1, 0),
                new Vector3d(1, -1, 0),
                new Vector3d(-1, -1, 0),
            };

            int[] coords1 =
            {
                0, 1, 2,
                2, 1, 3,
                3, 4, 2,
                2, 4, 0,
                0, 4, 5,
                5, 1, 0,
                4, 3, 5,
                5, 3, 1
            };

            Mesh mesh = new Mesh(verts1, coords1, Misc.CalcNormalizedFaceNormals(verts1, coords1));
            var obj = new DeformableObject(1);
            obj.Initialize(mesh);

            Vector3d[] verts2 =
            {
                new Vector3d(-0.5f, -0.5f, -1),
                new Vector3d(0.5f, -0.5f, 0.5f),
                new Vector3d(-0.8f, -0.7f, 0.5f),
                new Vector3d(-0.5f, 1.5f, -1),
                new Vector3d(-0.5f, 0.5f, 0.5f),
                new Vector3d(1, 2, -1.5f),
                new Vector3d(0.5f, 0.8f, 1),
                new Vector3d(0.5f, 1, -1),
            };

            int[] coords2 =
            {
                0, 1, 2,
                2, 3, 0,
                3, 2, 4,
                4, 5, 3,
                5, 4, 6,
                6, 7, 5,
                7, 6, 1,
                1, 0, 7,
                2, 1, 4,
                4, 1, 6,
                0, 3, 7,
                7, 3, 5
            };

            Mesh mesh2 = new Mesh(verts2, coords2, Misc.CalcNormalizedFaceNormals(verts2, coords2));
            var obj2 = new DeformableObject(1);
            obj2.Initialize(mesh2);

            BooleanModeller.Subtract(obj, obj2);
            // obj is now subtracted, obj2 hasn't changed and is still valid and can be used for further operations

##Notes This project should be seen as a starting point and not as a finished project. I know that there are many possibilities for improvement but I don't have the time to work on them. So everyone is welcome to work on this project since I think that it has a lot of potential. As far as I know, there is currently no free (or even open source) CNC simulation software available. So it would be great if this project can fill this gap in the future.
