[docs] the lifecycle of a kit

We should aim to add documentation that covers the lifecycle of a kit.

We already have something like that about making a kit from scratch and submitting it to the registry, but we should go into more details linking through the various things that individuals could do, e.g. setting up tooling, long term testing, looking out for upstream changes etc...
