Found some related errors:

There seems to be no simple way to solve this issue since it is primarily a bug in the Samsung device. Will dig in further...

The firmware upgrade requires a Windows or Mac computer... will try with one of the OCAD U Macs

The phone is not supported on the Mac version of the upgrading software, we will need a PC but there are none at 49 McCaul
