Just a heads up there is an in development R package on EDIs github that has made wrappers around a bunch of the pasta API calls.
I think the documentation needs a bit of work/could use a vignette, but still might be faster than rewriting (or, you can make a PR and add to it and further humankind, not just your own project :) https://github.com/EDIorg/EDIutils
I know @wwieder and others were asking about this. I had just been baking my own REST calls but looks like EDI has made good progress on generalizing. I'm not aware of a similar development effort for python, but the pasta API documentation is pretty thorough. Niwot's whole catalog is made off the pasta API - so you shouldn't need to web scrape unless you love doing so!
